Why Omani Brands Switched to NFC Business Cards

By Ali Adnan Haider Darwish, CEO

Two years ago an NFC business card in Muscat was a novelty. Today it is on the desk of half the executives we print for. The shift happened fast, and it was not about gadgets. It was about a measurable problem with paper cards: most of them end up in a drawer, and the contact details never make it into a phone. This guide explains why Omani brands switched, what NFC cards actually cost, and how to set one up properly.

What an NFC card is

An NFC (Near Field Communication) business card has a thin re-programmable chip embedded inside. The recipient taps it to the back of any modern smartphone, no app required, and your contact page opens instantly. They save your details with one tap. Most cards also carry a printed QR code as a backup for older phones.

Why Muscat executives made the switch

  • Contacts actually get saved. A paper card has to be typed into a phone manually, which mostly never happens. A tap saves name, role, phone, email, website, and social links in seconds.
  • One card, always current. Change job, phone, or title? Re-point the same card to new details. No reprint. This alone pays for the card if your role changes often.
  • Bilingual by default. The landing page can show Arabic and English side by side, with no layout compromise that a 55x85mm paper card forces.
  • It signals the brand. In Oman's relationship-driven business culture, handing over a premium tap card at a first meeting reads as modern and serious.
  • Trackable. You can see how many taps your card got, which matters for sales teams.

What it costs in Oman

At BHD Printing & Designing, NFC tap cards are OMR 25 each. That includes the chip, programming, a printed QR backup, and a hosted digital profile. Compare that to OMR 6 to 15 per 100 for paper cards, and the maths only works if the card earns its keep through repeated re-use and re-programming. For a CEO, a head of sales, or anyone whose details change, it does.

Many Omani brands run a hybrid: NFC cards for the leadership and client-facing team, traditional premium paper cards for everyone else.

How the chip is programmed

The NFC chip stores a single URL that points to your digital profile. We program it at our Muscat workshop and lock it so it cannot be overwritten by accident, while keeping the destination editable. To update your details later, you change the profile, not the chip.

What to send us to set one up

  1. Your full contact details in Arabic and English.
  2. Logo as SVG or high-resolution PNG.
  3. Links you want on the profile (website, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Instagram).
  4. A photo if you want a personal profile rather than a brand profile.
  5. Card finish preference for the physical card itself (matte, soft-touch, foil).

Production takes 5 to 7 days because each chip is programmed and tested individually.

The BHD Group connection

BHD also runs Cardify, a digital business card platform, so the NFC profile you get is built on the same infrastructure used by hundreds of Omani professionals. That means the card and its digital profile stay in sync and supported.
